Foreign Minister Bob Carr announced the establishment of a new office for the Australian International Food Security Centre (AIFSC) in Nairobi, Kenya. Senator Carr welcomed the implementation of the Centre’s first research projects to further food security in Africa.
The Australian International Food Security Centre will play a critical long-term role in helping Africa reach its potential to feed a continent of one billion people.
“This exciting new initiative will be working hard to build partnerships and the capacity of smallholder farmer and institutions to ensure food security across south-east Africa”, said Ms Mellissa Wood, Director.
